The Advocacy Group for Adults with Sickle Cell Anemia (AGASCA) is proud to announce the formation of the SCD Soldier Network. In 2010 we will celebrate 100 years since the formal description of Sickle Cell Anemia was documented in western literature.  We are ready to give those who battle with this disease a national support system.  After 100 years it's time to let the world know that we are an army of survivors, who are defeating all of the odds and will not stay in the perimeters of the statistics. In order to do that we need others who will join us in bringing awareness to this blood disorder.

Who We Are

We are still in the formation stages of the SCD Soldier Network, which will stand as a National Registry of Volunteers who are dedicated to supporting those with Sickle Cell Disease. AGASCA is currently an online support group and we felt that there was a need to take that support offline so that there is a real impact to the lives of those battling SCD. We are currently recruiting individuals who have Sickle Cell Disease or those who want to help bring awareness to the blood disorder. If you are interested in providing advocacy, education, outreach and support for those with the disease, then this is the place for you.

The purpose of the SCD Soldier Network is to provide a support system for those in need of assistance.  In the future we will be offering various services to adults with Sickle Cell, as well as special services for children and their parents.

Our primary function is to support programs that bring awareness of Sickle Cell Disease. We will also  provide assistance whenever a person with SCD feels as though they need help with an issue that has arisen as a result of having the disease.

  • Employer Conflict Resolution
  • In-Patient Conflict Resolution
  • Consultation
  • Education
  • Outreach

The additional services provided will come directly from recommendations of patient panels and those who are already active in provideing services within the Sickle Cell Community.

We Are Recruiting!

We are currently seeking individuals who want to offer support to those with Sickle Cell Disease. There are three soldier levels:

Support Soldier: Our SCD Support Soldiers will meet regularly to discuss the projects, events and issues that need to be addressed. These soldiers will attend events, make phone calls, send out mailings and other duties as needed.  The service of this level soldier is primarily behind the scenes, except for during events.

Front-Line Soldier: Our SCD Front-Line Soldiers also meet  along with the primary level soldiers, however they also meet for training and event briefings. They are the people who are activated to go into the trenches when a situation arises in their area. These Soldiers will be the pulse of the network and will be very visible in the Sickle Cell Community.

Tiny Soldiers: Our SCD Tiny Soldiers is the new level for those 12 and under and they are our proteges. The children that battle sickle cell or have relitives with the disease can attend our awareness events and learn more about the blood disorder, through being exposed to those with it.

If you are interested in becoming a SCD Soldier please fill out the information form in the Recruiting Station page of this webste and a representative will contact you with more information.
